Planner of the Month – November 2010

As the snow starts to fall and the holidays near, we are reminded of the things we love about this time of year. Rebecca Fisher-Swarbrooke of High Culture Weddings & Special Events, creates a lovely, non-traditional, early winter tablescape for our November Planner of the Month table.

Rebecca’s passion for event and wedding planning started at a young age. With both parents pursuing careers in the events industry, Rebecca grew up experiencing the exciting industry first hand. In 2007, while still in high school, Rebecca completed her Wedding and Event Planning Certificate through Metro Continuing Education. In 2008, Rebecca continued her education at the University of Alberta where she is currently completing her Bachelor of Arts Degree in English & Comparative Literature.

Since 2007, under her business High Culture Weddings & Special Events, Rebecca has completed 7 beautiful weddings along with numerous consultations for wedding and event décor and design.

“Find inspiration through all available sources, collect ideas in an event file, and create an inspiration board. Also take time to think about your décor. This is one of the most significant elements to your event. Your event style is like a brand and should be represented throughout every area of your event space.”

Edmonton Event: Kids Helping Kids

In 2006, when Kelley Polowy was just 4 years old, her 3 year old brother Christopher spent time at the Stollery after being diagnosed and treated for Kawasaki’s disease.  Kelley wanted to help other sick children get better so she used her passion for art to raise money.

Four years later, Kelley is holding her annual Art Sale with all proceeds going to the Stollery.  She has asked her friends to contribute their talents and together, they have spent many hours making handmade cards & gift wrap, framed art and candle holders to sell, perfect for the holiday season.  These are very talented children who, at such a young age are making a difference, inspiring each other and those of us lucky enough to be a part of their efforts.  Here are the details for this year’s sale:
