Planner of the Month – October 2011

October Planner of the Month Anna Gosselin, owner and lead designer of All That Glitters Event Planning and Design Inc. shows that inspiration can be found everywhere with her glowing seasonal tablescape on display in the showroom this month.

e-ven-ture: (noun)        A remarkable occurrence; a striking event; a stirring incident; as, the adventures of one’s life.

“I am always inspired by the people I design events for, these are often such defining moments in their lives, and it’s an incredible thing to be a part of.  I live to see their dreams, passions and values reflected in every detail – that’s what transforms an event into something unforgettable.  I am so excited for the possibilities that await in the events I’ll be a part of tomorrow.”

Anna studied business through Grant MacEwan and NAIT from 2002 – 2007 with the dream of one day starting her own company.  She has over twelve years of experience designing large and small-scale events for individuals, companies, schools and community organizations.  In 2011, her dream was realized when she officially launched All That Glitters Inc.  She offers wedding planning services ranging from full to day-of coordination as well as consulting and a la carte services such as theme/concept development, vendor sourcing, decorating, stationery design and even a thank-you card service.

All That Glitters Inc. is also one of the only event planning companies to offer proposal planning. A unique service for the to-be groom to ensure that a couple’s engagement story is personalized, meaningful and exciting to tell over and over again.  As with all of their events, full and partial planning is available, but for the do-it-yourselfer or the guy on a budget, Anna also offers customized proposal blueprints.

Velveteen Vintage

“What is REAL?” asked the Rabbit one day, when they were lying side by side near the nursery fender, before Nana came to tidy the room. “Does it mean having things that buzz inside you and a stick-out handle?”

“Real isn’t how you are made,” said the Skin Horse. “It’s a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real.”

“Does it hurt?” asked the Rabbit.

“Sometimes,” said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. “When you are Real you don’t mind being hurt.”

“Does it happen all at once, like being wound up,” he asked, “or bit by bit?”

“It doesn’t happen all at once,” said the Skin Horse. “You become. It takes a long time. That’s why it doesn’t happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are Real you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand.”  (The Velveteen Rabbit, children’s novel written by Margery Williams and illustrated by William Nicholson)

Words read as the bride and groom stood nervously awaiting the chance to utter their own words of love. Under a warm afternoon glow through shades of dusted violet and ivory they stood, surrounded by friends and family. And as they said their I do’s and had their first kiss as husband and wife, guests arose with wedding wands in hand ringing bells of good luck on their new adventure.

With inspiration taken from beloved classic tales and vintage accents, their wedding could not have been more perfect than if it were written in a storybook itself. With hand-made programs and wishing cards, buttons to accent handkerchiefs for those tears of joy, this wedding design leaves no element forgotten.

Be enveloped by the many details in this classic wedding by Event Planning Headquarters own Jenelle Jamani that will leave you dreaming of your own storybook ending.

Charger Plates: Where, When, Why, and How

Charger plates seem to be one of those mysterious items which you either know exactly what it is or do not have a clue. For most outside of the event industry, you may have seen charger plates in action but were unaware of the purpose they serve or even further what they are called. A charger plate or service plate is a large decorative plate used to dress up dinner tables at parties, weddings, and other special events. Often a decorative charger plate is left on the table as a large coaster for the soup and salad courses and then removed for the main entree. Others keep the under-plate or charger together until the end of the entire meal. Chargers can appear in many shapes, styles, and colors, but one thing that all chargers have in common is the fact that food is not meant to touch chargers during the meal.

So why chargers? Charger plates not only dress up a table and help carry your decor onto the table, they also act as excellent place markers for guests during  large buffet dinners at corporate events such as holiday and retirement parties as well as weddings where guests are leaving then returning to their seats.

Typically, charger plates have been used at large events such as weddings and corporate functions. With Special Event Rentals’s extensive, new selection of charger plates, we are seeing the items used not only at large scale events but also in smaller home events.

Charger plates can be used in any decor setting. From a small, intimate dinner party to a corporate holiday function of 500, chargers are the perfect addition to any table setting. These plates are a great way to add a particular pop of color to your decor.

In addition to being used under your guests’ dinnerware, charger plates are a perfect base for a quick and very clean looking centrepiece. Charger plates can hold an arrangement of candles, flowers, shells, fruit or even all 4!
