Alternative Style Bouquets

The smell of fresh floral can be quite intoxicating but can be accompanied with a hefty price tag. Creating your own Alternative style bouquet can save you money while adding an extra personal touch to your wedding day.

With everything Vintage and Glamour in wedding trends, broach bouquets have been popping up to add that extra vintage allure and can be created with broaches found at vintage shops; or perhaps ask for  old broaches from different family members to add a special touch and a bit of family history.

If you’re having your wedding during the winter holidays perhaps try arranging a few Christmas ball ornaments into a tulle bouquet. A wheat bouquet will add an extra flare of country charm while an origami bouquet can add a fun fresh impression. Into pop culture or want a little more dramatic approach? Why not see what you have around the house and make flowers out of old coca cola cans, or comic books?

By creating your own bouquet with broaches, fabric, shells or even paper you will be able to keep and use your bouquet as décor to remind you of your special day. Place your hand-made bouquet in a vase for a never decaying arrangement or rest it on a wedding keepsake shelf in your home.

A Junkyard Wedding

Kristina McAnally of Event Planning Headquarters, a division of Special Event Rentals, has created an elegant and inspiring design focused on a brilliant contrast of beauty and dishevelled metal.

Special Event Rentals Junkyard Tablescape

“For quite some time I have wanted to do a bridal shoot that was designed purely around juxtaposition. Most people would never dare put a bride in a couture gown in a junkyard full of dishevelled metal but that’s exactly what I wanted! The opportunity finally presented itself and I assemble a team of the wedding industry’s finest to help me complete the vision,” Kristina McAnally.

Kristina’s tablescape was kept fairly simple, and consisted of elements like crystal clear chairs, diamond napkin rings and an oversized diamond table number holder. These accents brought simple elegance that was needed to contrast with the junkyard backdrop. While the centerpiece was a combination of twisted metal, beautiful fresh flowers and hanging glass bulbs which stand out beautifully against the slate linen.

Adding in a gorgeous couture wedding gown by ROOY Couture, and an all hand “etched” and colourful floral 6 tier masterpiece of a cake by Cake Couture against a rusty old oil tank, and you have an innovative display of wedding creativity.

2012 Wedding Trend – Fairytale Inspired Weddings

Our final installment of our 2012 wedding trend series is all about Fairytale love stories. This year, weddings will be moving away from a traditional concept and moving towards selecting a Fairytale character or movie to gain inspiration.

Jenelle Jamani from Event Planning Headquarters, a division of Special Event Rentals, along with our Special Event Rentals team have created three enchanting fairytale tablescapes.

Who’s The Fairest of Them All

Snow White And The Huntsman Movie Poster

With two new movies, Mirror Mirror  and Snow White and the Huntsman , coming out this year along with a TV series, Once Upon a Time , everyone is a buzz about Snow White. Taking a twist in the original version of Snow White Kristen Stewart, playing Snow White in the upcoming Snow White and the Huntsman, will be mentored by her protector the huntsman, played by Chris Hemsworth, to defeat the evil queen who is played by Charlize Theron.  This tablescape takes inspiration from the upcoming movie Snow White and the Huntsman with its dark earth tones. Birds are located in the black branches to symbolize Snow White’s affection for animals

This table can be recreated using the following Special Event Rentals Products:

Chocolate Satin Tablecloth, Napkin, Chair TieSage Pintuck, Black Chiavari, Gold Black Vein Charger, Classic White Dinnerware, SLX Cutlery12.75oz Wine Glass, 16oz Wine Glass Mercury Votives.

The Lion Fell in Love With The Lamb

If you are unfamiliar with the Twilight book and movie series then you might be surprised to know that the vampire family known as the Cullen’s are dark and dangerous like so many other vampire based books or movies. The wedding between Edward Cullen and his soul mate Bella Swan was a breathtaking scene of fresh florals, light and earthy hues. This recreation of the Twilight wedding uses vibrant earth tones such as fern green, ivory and shades of brown such as chocolate and brass to give off the liveliness of the outdoors.

This table can be recreated using the following Special Event Rentals Products:

Ivory Lace Lucerne, Green Bamboo, Fruitwood Chiavari, Chocolate Signature Napkin, Classic White Dinnerware, 7″ Whittier Aurora Bowl, Oneida Cutlery, Brown Pine Charger, Small Bell Vase6″X14″ Cylinder Vase, 7oz Crystal Wine Glass, 8.5oz Crystal Wine Glass, Mercury Votives & Brown Tree Holder.

As You Wish

The Princess Bride is a classic fairytale love story that involves sword fights, a giant, an evil prince and of course a beautiful princess who is saved by her masked true love. This tablescape takes inspiration from the poster of this memorable film. Incorporating light hues of tiffany blue and vanilla linen and mixing them with the cool tones of gold chiavari’s and silver gothic chargers creates the perfect renaissance atmosphere.

This table can be recreated using the following Special Event Rentals Products:

Tiffany Blue Satin, Vanilla Satin Napkin, Gold ChiavariSilver Gothic ChargerPlatinum Rim Dinnerware, Oneida CutleryStemmed Candleholder 11″, Stemmed Candleholder 13″, Stemmed Candleholder 15″ & Mini Rose Bowl Votive

We hope you enjoyed our 2012 wedding trend series and we would love to hear what your favorite wedding trend is. Let us know but leaving a comment below!

Bridal Fantasy 2012

Bridal Fantasy 2012!

Bridal Fantasy is the largest wedding show in Edmonton, and for any bride this is “the” event not to be missed. With line up’s out the door, and numerous vendors from photographers, to venues, to sweets and treats, this Bridal show had it all and was worth the wait.

With Special guests Renee Strauss and Kevin Lee, of Slice TV’s Brides of Beverly Hills, opening the Fashion Show, a fairytale castle, Ballerina’s, a kid’s performance of “Be our Guest”, and of course more bridal gowns than one can count, the day had everything and anything you’d need to make your dream wedding a reality.

If you weren’t able to make it to this year’s Bridal Fantasy, here is a taste of what you missed…

Favors and Details, by Edmonton Wedding & Party Centre

For those little touches every Bride needs to finish off the reception table, Edmonton Wedding & Party Centre, a division of Special Event Rentals, has you covered. From mini royal chairs, to crowns, to diamonds, to mini mailboxes and keys, we carry everything you need to add those last minute details and of something that is uniquely you.

A Summer Garden Reception

With a table for all seasons, our first table in our line up is perfect for any garden tea party or reception. With white folding resin chairs, satin linens and napkins, and gorgeous green centrepieces, this table is perfect for a quaint backyard wedding, afternoon tea, or an outside gala.

A Cafe Inspired Table

Our next table is perfect for any autumn day, or for some warm colours to brighten up the cold outside. This table brings together classic neutrals with a little burgundy and some burnt orange to create this elegant table.  You can re-create this look by using our votive trio, just add some flowers and you have a gorgeous centrepiece to finish off your table. And for that Tuscan cafe feel, why not add our new Chateau Chairs?

A Princess Peach Reception

Princess Peach would be the first to rave about our next table. With whites, ivories, mint greens, and a lot of peach this table is fitting for any princess. Little royal chairs topped with mini cupcakes make for perfect guest favors, and with a great florist it’s amazing what you can create out of a plain iron tree candle holder.

An Artistic Perfect Table

Our last table is perfect for not only an elegant gala or art gallery showing, but it’s perfect for any “artsy” wedding. The contrast of our silver crinkle linen with accents of bright orange and yellow create a wonderfully bold statement! A finishing touch of our silver tree centrepiece with glass bulbs with matching orchids are a lasting conversation piece.

What’s Your Colour?

This year we decided to feature the colour orange, and the many different styles and designs you can make up using one colour. However, at Special Event Rentals we carry many different styles and textures of linen, so be sure to come by our showroom so we can show you the many different ways you can put your wedding colours to good use!

Stay tuned tomorrow for our last post in our Wedding Trends of 2012 series. We saved the best for last!

2012 Wedding Trend – Mercury Glass

Our sixth 2012 wedding trend is mercury glass! If you are unfamiliar with this type of glass it’s generally either silver or gold speckled foil that is imbedded in clear glass. Mercury glass was originally used as a protective coating on mirrors and sliver mercury was hand blown to create what is considered the first true glass art, glass that was made for the sole purpose of display.

Vintage Mercury Glass

Mercury glass adds the perfect amount of elegance and charm as well as some much enjoyed sparkle to any table. Votive holders in this style will produce a chic sparkle to any colour combination. Either purchase accents of mercury glass for your wedding tabletops or rent them to avoid finding them all a place in your home.

This trend isn’t just a wedding trend but also crosses into a house hold must have! If you do end up purchasing mercury votives or vases for your wedding they will be a great memory keepsake of your special day while adding glitz to your home décor.

Decor Trend Mercury Glass

Check back Wednesday for our last post in our 2012 trend series. It will be sure to touch your inner childhood princess. Or if you missed Bridal Fantasy this weekend, check our blog tomorrow to see what you missed out on!

2012 Wedding Trends – Photo Booths

Our fifth trend was seen in 2011 and won’t be going anywhere anytime soon. Trendy photo booths will be showcased at weddings again this year.

Backdrops can be custom designed to fit your event and give it a personal touch. For example, create a fluffy and sparkly backdrop with old tinsel garland.

Custom Tinsel Backdrop

If you love sparkle you can rent a crystal beaded curtain or custom make your own backdrop with your wedding colours. Using old window or large photo frames create a unique and creative backdrop, while custom vinyl backdrops can add your own Hollywood glamour with a red carpet as an extra touch.

Window Frame and Photo Frame BackdropCustom Made BackdropChair Photo Booth

Different props such as hats, glasses and mustaches will provide you and your guests with hours of good hearted amusement. Incorporate your own personality into the photo’s; try using props such as a Darth Vader mask and light sabers if you’re a huge Star Wars fan, or Tiaras and scepters can be used as props to make your guests feel like royalty.

Photo booths are a great source of entertainment for you and your guests in addition to creating incredible memories. Pick your favorite photos out of the bunch and use them as your thank you card to your guests. Or why not publish a photo album on social media sites such as Facebook  or FlickR for all your guests to enjoy while allowing them to download their favorite photos!

2012 Wedding Trend – Guestbook’s

The fourth installment of our 2012 wedding trends series takes a looks at the new direction of guestbook keepsakes.  Moving away from the traditional guestbook’s found in stores, we will be seeing more personal and custom interpretations.

Thumb tree guestbook’s started appearing at the end of 2011 and is such a fun idea that we are sure that we will be seeing more of these print trees! An in-expensive alternative, all you need is a picture of a tree, illustrated or photographed, and a pad of ink!

Thumb Guestbook Tree

Another way to change the ordinary guestbook is by giving each guest a piece of paper or cue card to write either a marriage tip or date night idea. The newlyweds are then able to arrange these cards into a book for an endless resource of ideas from their family and friends.

Love Advice Card

If you’re a puzzle couple select one of your engagement photos to turn into a custom puzzle. Have your guest’s sign the backs of the puzzle pieces and you’ll have a wonderful and unique keepsake.

Personalized Wedding Guest Book - Puzzle

One of our favourite custom ideas has to be the guitar guestbook. A little more expensive this keepsake is great for any couple whose love also involves music. Ranging from custom guitars to inexpensive second hand guitars, all you need in addition is a pen and you’ll have a piece of art for your new home.

Guitar Guest Book

All That Glitters Inc. Wedding Planning and Design introduced us to the “When did we meet board” Perfect for any wedding, or social get together, all you need is a pin board and a few pieces of paper. Have your guests write down when you met with a little note and tack it to the pin board. Globe Trotter? Why not have a map, with “Where did we meet?” as an alternative.

How Did We Meet? Guestbook

Mab Libs are a great source of entertainment and we love the idea of creating a Guest Lib for your guests to fill out!   Guaranteed they will be a hit at the reception while guests have fun with their best wedding advice to the Bride and Groom.

Colour Trends 2012

The Planners at Event Planning Headquarters, a division of Special Event Rentals, created two gorgeous tablescapes at the Bridal Fair on Sunday using two of the latest color schemes for 2012.

Using ironwood and grey as an autumn base, this table brings a bright splash of colour with orange, yellow and peach. With candles and rose petals as starting details, and our new glass globes added to the centrepiece this table gives reason to why these colors are so in style this season.
