Getting Wedding Organized – Ceremony & Reception Venue

One of the first decisions you will need to make when planning your wedding is where to host your ceremony and reception. Do you want to have an outdoor or indoor wedding? Do you want to be near water or close to the mountains? Do you prefer to have the ceremony and reception at the same location? You should make a venue decision a year before your wedding to insure that you get the venue of your dreams.

Another decision you will need to make before looking for a ceremony venue is if you want to have a civil or religious ceremony.

If you have no strong religious views a civil ceremony may be the right option for you. A civil ceremony will allow an unconventional ceremony and gives you the option to pick any desired location for your ceremony.

However if you have strong religious views a religious ceremony in a house of worship might suit you best. A religious ceremony can also on occasion be held at another location if you desire and can almost always incorporate the traditions and customs of your faith.

Your reception will potentially be the most extravagant event you will host or plan. With two types of venue options, indoor or outdoor you will be able to bring your dreams to life. Before you start looking for a reception venue you will want to know approximately how many guests you will have as this can help you in eliminating a few venues choices.

The first option is to host your reception at a hotel, golf course or another indoor venue. These types of venues host many events within a year and therefore will supply you with tables, chairs as well as most reception venues can supply you with a basic linen to cover your tables. Picking an indoor venue will allow you to make fewer choices such as which caterer to use, as they will most likely supply you and your guests with a plated or buffet meal.

Finding the perfect wedding dress is one of the biggest decisions a bride will face. Countless hours are spent searching online and in magazines for different wedding dress styles and designs prior to heading into a boutique. Additional time is spent in the boutique trying on different gowns until the moment when sparks fly and you find “the one.”

Generally speaking you should start looking for your dress eight months before your wedding. If you don’t have this much time to look for a dress, don’t panic; just be prepared that you may have to spend a little extra on rush charges.

Before heading into a store you should have an idea of what type of dress shape suits you best: a-line, ball gown, mermaid or empire waist.  Also, know if you want an all-white gown, a pop of colour with the addition of a ribbon, or a non-traditional gown in a completely different colour. Do It Yourself Wedding Coasters

Most people use coasters on a daily basis to protect their tabletops from those haunting glass rings. Create custom coaster sets for each of your guests as their favour. Make each coaster set a little more personal by inserting a special thank you for each guest or a favourite memory that you share with each guest.

This is also a great D.I.Y. project if you’re not sure what to get the newly wed couple! Insert favourite words, phrases or memories that you share with the newly wed couple.

DIY Wedding Coasters

You will need the following items:

  • 2 – 4”x4” glass squares
  • Smokey or clear paper
  • Clear nuggets
  • 3/8 copper foil
  • Crazy glue

Step 1: Print your selected text on the smokey or clear paper. Let the ink dry before moving on to the next step.

Step 2: Use an exacto knife to cut your text into a 4”x4” square.

Step 3: Clean the glass with either warm water or Windex until the glass is spot free.

Step 4: Place your text in-between the two glass pieces.

Step 5: Foil the edges together.

Step 6: Smooth the foil down. You can use the edge of a pencil to do this.

Step 7:  Crazy glue your clear nuggets to the backside of the coaster, one in each corner.

The first dance is a memorable part of the wedding for you and your guests. If you’re not light on your feet you may want to consider taking a few dancing lessons to ensure that you leave everyone wondering where you got such amazing skills on the dance floor!
