What’s Your Wedding Style? Modern Venue & Decor

Bold Minimalist Bride

Bold Minimalist Wedding Decor Inspiration

A bold minimalist bride seeks a venue where the architecture of the building does more for her décor plan than any supporting elements she brings into the space. Ever a proponent of clean lines, the Art Gallery of Alberta, Winspear Centre, and Holes Enjoy Centre top her list for wedding venues. Accenting the glass and steel framework of these locations, she uses crystal clear chiavari chairs to keep the décor clean while still visually stunning. The clarity of the chairs ensure her tables dressed in black and white formal stripe linen receive the full attention they deserve. Clear plexi pillars line her ceremony aisle and also act as display cases for her shallow table centerpieces running down the middle of long feast tables.

Urban Bride

Urban Wedding Inspiration

The urban bride seeks a unique and intimate space, offering unexpected interior construction and location. She chooses a downtown rooftop for her ceremony and uses the city skyline as a dramatic backdrop. For the reception, she opts for a venue with exposed beams, brick and pipes or a completely blank slate to build on with intentional lighting and projections, and – of course – room to dance. Latitude 53, the Yellowhead Brewery or TransAlta Arts Barns are her top choices. She brings in LED bars and furniture, gelato tables and scooper stools, and a strong sound system to ensure the party carries well into the wee hours of the morn.

Gothic Inspired Weddings

A wedding is the perfect opportunity for a couple to share their personality and personal style with their guests. We love the unique quality and personal aspect that comes when a couple decides to step outside of the traditional wedding box and create a wedding that is all their own.

Gothic stylized weddings and the fall season go hand in hand due to the darker colour tones that become more prominent during the autumn season. Black and purple are generally used to create this style of wedding in combination with accents of white, which produces a bold colour contrast.

When most people think about gothic inspired weddings they tend to instantly think of edgy dark tones but the photos below show that gothic weddings can still be extremely elegant.

Wedding Entertainment

With instant access to games and videos on any smart phone or computer it’s no wonder people are starting to have a short attention span and want to be wowed on a daily basis! So it is no surprise that more and more couples are incorporating some type of entertainment during their wedding reception.

There are three popular wedding reception entertainment trends that are sure to keep your guest entertained. The first is a live band; find a local talent or if you have some musically inclined friends let them perform for you and your guests. The second is to hire a cartoon artist to create entertaining caricatures and the third option, one of our favorites, is a photo booth! Make your own photo booth by creating or renting a fun backdrop, have fun props such as silly hats, a digital camera on a tripod and a printer. If you don’t have the desire to create your own photo booth you can always hire a local photo booth company who will supply everything you need.

If the above options seem a little too tame for the wedding atmosphere you want to achieve why not hire professional belly dancers? If you have a large reception space amaze your guests with a flamethrower or aerial artists. Before you book your elaborate wedding performer be sure to run it past your venue to insure that there will not be any issues with the type of entertainment you choose.

Will you be having any entertainment at your wedding?
