St. Patrick’s Day in Edmonton

Tomorrow is St. Patrick’s Day and it’s a day of celebration and as well as a day to remember to wear something green to avoid being pinched.

For the past two years Fort Edmonton Park has put on a special celebration called Celtic Reflection – A St. Patrick’s Celebration. To find out if they are participating in this years St. Patrick’s Day festivities please contact Fort Edmonton Park.

If you’re more interested in a lively and traditional Irish celebration you might want to check out one of the local Irish pubs. Edmonton’s local Irish pubs include Twisted Kilt, Tilted Kilt, Black Sheep Pub, O’Byrne’s Irish Pub, The Druid Irish Pub and Devaney’s Irish Pub. The Irish pubs tend to be rather popular during this holiday so one alternative is to attend an Irish themed event.

Now 102.3 will be hosting a pre St. Patrick’s Day event at The Pint on Whyte tonight, while tomorrow The Pint Downtown is hosting their own St. Patrick’s Day event with tents supplied from Special Event Rentals.

Why not check out a few different events, and stop by our showroom to pick up your copy of the new SONIC Session CD Volume 2 before you head to SONIC 102.9 St. Patrick’s Day event tomorrow at Hudsons on Whyte.

 Sonic Sessions Volume 2 CD

If you would rather stay away from the pubs why not host your own St. Patrick’s Day event in the comfort of your own home. Entertain your guest with a green Belgian style lager from our neighbors Alley Kat or make your own green beverage like some sweet green milkshakes. Treat your guests to green cupcakes and supply hats and pins for those who forgot to sport green. View yesterday’s do it yourself post on how to create some of these tasty treats for your guests.

If you happen to be looking for a place to travel to this weekend, or if you are already packing your bags for your destination, you should definitely try making it to Chicago where they dye their river green for St. Patrick’s Day! For the past 40+ years they have been turning their river green in honor of this Irish holiday. Click here to watch how Chicago turns its river green.

Our team at Special Event Rentals would like to wish everything fantastic and safe St. Patrick’s Day!

Bridal Fantasy 2012!

Bridal Fantasy is the largest wedding show in Edmonton, and for any bride this is “the” event not to be missed. With line up’s out the door, and numerous vendors from photographers, to venues, to sweets and treats, this Bridal show had it all and was worth the wait.

With Special guests Renee Strauss and Kevin Lee, of Slice TV’s Brides of Beverly Hills, opening the Fashion Show, a fairytale castle, Ballerina’s, a kid’s performance of “Be our Guest”, and of course more bridal gowns than one can count, the day had everything and anything you’d need to make your dream wedding a reality.

If you weren’t able to make it to this year’s Bridal Fantasy, here is a taste of what you missed…

A Summer Garden Reception

With a table for all seasons, our first table in our line up is perfect for any garden tea party or reception. With white folding resin chairs, satin linens and napkins, and gorgeous green centrepieces, this table is perfect for a quaint backyard wedding, afternoon tea, or an outside gala.

A Cafe Inspired Table

Our next table is perfect for any autumn day, or for some warm colours to brighten up the cold outside. This table brings together classic neutrals with a little burgundy and some burnt orange to create this elegant table.  You can re-create this look by using our votive trio, just add some flowers and you have a gorgeous centrepiece to finish off your table. And for that Tuscan cafe feel, why not add our new Chateau Chairs?

A Princess Peach Reception

Princess Peach would be the first to rave about our next table. With whites, ivories, mint greens, and a lot of peach this table is fitting for any princess. Little royal chairs topped with mini cupcakes make for perfect guest favors, and with a great florist it’s amazing what you can create out of a plain iron tree candle holder.

An Artistic Perfect Table

Our last table is perfect for not only an elegant gala or art gallery showing, but it’s perfect for any “artsy” wedding. The contrast of our silver crinkle linen with accents of bright orange and yellow create a wonderfully bold statement! A finishing touch of our silver tree centrepiece with glass bulbs with matching orchids are a lasting conversation piece.

What’s Your Colour?

This year we decided to feature the colour orange, and the many different styles and designs you can make up using one colour. However, at Special Event Rentals we carry many different styles and textures of linen, so be sure to come by our showroom so we can show you the many different ways you can put your wedding colours to good use!

Stay tuned tomorrow for our last post in our Wedding Trends of 2012 series. We saved the best for last!

O’ Christmas Tree, O’ Christmas Tree…

With only ten days till Christmas, the last minute details on everyone’s holiday decor start to go up. If you are one among the many procrastinators when it comes to holiday decorating and putting up that holiday tree, we have put together some holiday ideas when it comes to simple quick and easy tree decor.

For the Minimalist

Need a quick fix to the absence of a holiday tree? You don’t have to have an abundance of decorations or a $1000 budget to have a great looking tree. Here we’ve taken a simple white Christmas tree and added some white lights. Minimalism at its greatest it still adds that warm festive feel, and goes great with our silver and white holiday table. Not looking for a long tern tree? Why not rent one from us and really cut down on your holiday budget and set up.

For Those Who Like To Keep It Simple and Elegant

If you’re looking for something a little more for your Christmas tree but still want to keep it simple, arranging your tree in two tones of color is a great way to add color and style and under budget. This tree is nothing more than some white lights and two different colors of ornaments, pink and gold.

Many stores offer large packages of monochromatic ornaments for a cheap price; pick two colors for your tree and start decorating. The two colors will keep it simple while the different style of ornaments will give it a unique style.

For The Modern Contemporary

As years go by, we see more and more colored trees in living rooms as opposed to the classic green. Colored trees add a modern contemporary touch to the holidays and give decorating a new dimension. Our “love actually” tree has a black base, and bright red ornaments with silver details to give it that holiday glitz and glamour.

For the Diva

Gold earrings? Leopard pumps? Want your holiday tree to match you in Diva standard but without a Diva budget? This Christmas tree takes a different spin on the holidays by adding a bit of exotic flare. With nothing but a few gold ornaments and some leopard ribbon you’ve created a Louis Vuitton tree with a Walmart price.

For Those Young At Heart

With all those yearly trends out there, there are those of us who like to stick to the classics. This Christmas tree brings nothing but nostalgia to your table with the classic colors of red, blue and green, candy canes, candy ornaments and little toy drums to match. Why not add to the savings by taking some time with the kids and make some ornaments to match?

For Those Who Love Colour

The last in our holiday tree line up is polychromatic at its best. With everything from jewel tones, to diamonds to glitter this table is everything holiday sparkle! There are no rules when it comes to this tree, just lots and lots of color!

And as a little extra help this holiday check out this great Tree Ornament Calculator. Enter in the size of your tree and this calculator will automatically calculate just how many ornaments you need to make it look its best.

Happy Holidays and Happy Decorating from Special Event Rentals!

Edmonton Events: YESS

This past week the staff at Special Event Rentals attended the Youth Emergency Shelter Society’s (YESS) Great Expectations breakfast event. At the breakfast they had a few short presentations from staff and clients, both current and past who shared their stories and how YESS has benefitted their lives. It was amazing to hear their stories and to learn how YESS has helped some of Edmonton’s most vulnerable youth.

On May 27th, YESS is holding one of their signature events, Homeless for a Night at TELUS Field. This pledge based fundraiser has participants seek pledges in order to participate and the amount participants raise will determine where they sleep. Get out of your comfort zone for just one night and participate. For more information visit YESS online
