Appie Holiday

The holidays have arrived and I haven’t finished everything I need to do. My 13 year old nephew needs a home-made gift, nothing is wrapped and I still need to come up with an idea for dessert on Christmas day. Assistance with any of these tasks would be appreciated! The only saving grace is I don’t need to worry about what to serve when guests come over for a glass of holiday cheer because we took care of that earlier this month.

Holiday Dips

Carolyn and I took a walk around our showroom, chose some different rental product and then took off to the grocery store. Assorted dips are one of our favourite holiday treats but no one likes double-dippers. To solve this problem we went with individual spinach dip, hummus and surprise spread.  A simple ramekin, martini glass and cosmo glass are the perfect containers.  Use whatever you have around your home for these individual dips or come in to Special Event Rentals and rent them so you don’t have to do the dishes.

Use your favourite dip recipes or gather a few when you’re doing a grocery run. There are some great dips available at the local farmers market and grocery store. We used a store-bought spinach dip, added some grated cheese and baked them in the oven until warm and the top was brown. Served with breadsticks and crackers they were a big hit with the Special Event Rentals team.

Gold & Black Holiday Inspiration

This holiday season I’ve been gravitating towards anything that is gold and sparkles! Combining glitzy gold with black creates a classic palette and has me wanting to wear this colour combination all holiday season. What is your favourite holiday colour combination?

Creative Food Display: Popcorn Bites

Over the past several years caterers and restaurants have been finding unique and creative ways to serve the great food they make. While simple round plates and standard chafing dishes may do the job, they’re not much fun. Check out the great dessert display Bridges Catering did for an ISES event at Special Event Rentals. While dessert is irresistible to most people it becomes irresistible to everyone with a display like this.

Bridges Catering

With the holiday party season upon us we’ve been  thinking of different ways to serve food at our personal parties. Popcorn is a favourite treat at Special Event Rentals so we came up with a great way to serve it. Use simple cylinder vases, fill them with different types of popcorn and throw them on a  charger plate. Make the popcorn yourself or buy it pre-popped – no one needs to know. Serving popcorn this way will prevent congestion at your food table as they can grab their serving to mix and mingle.

Popcorn

Our favorite types of popcorn:

  • Childhood Favorite: Cheddar
  • Classic: Butter & Salt
  • Fun: Crunchy Caramel
  • Trendy: Truffle Oil & Sea Salt

If you need convincing to make the truffle & sea salt popcorn drop by the Confederation Lounge at the Fairmont Hotel Macdonald. Nothing makes a Friday evening better than a bowl of their decadent truffle popcorn and a cocktail. One bite and you’ll be tempted to make it at home for your next party.

Amber goblets and acorns placed around the centrepiece add a beautiful rustic touch against the classic gold-rimmed dinnerware. Delicious mint hot chocolate mix has been placed at each place setting as a nice treat for the guests. With this décor your guests will feel as if they have taken a trip to the mountains to feast for the evening.

Holiday Showroom: A Whoville Holiday Treat

If you loved Dr. Seuss and his fictional world of Whoville as a kid you are definitely going to love this table décor! Taking inspiration from the iconic holiday movie “How The Grinch Stole Christmas” this green and red tablescape seems to have popped right out of Whoville. Using our sliver tea light tree as a base it was wrapped with green garland and transformed into a festive centrepice that includes many nooks to safely hold an assortment of festive ornaments. An extra pop of colour was added to the napkin by placing a green and red ribbon over top.
