Do It Yourself Fabric Chandelier

Create this pretty fabric chandelier to add dramatic flare to your home or your next event!  This is a time consuming project so it’s important to note it cannot be completed in one day. In order to create a full and beautiful chandelier it will take you several days to complete.

Do It Yourself Fabric Chandelier Do It Yourself Fabric Chandelier

You Will Need the Following Items:

  • 5” round template
  • 1 small metal ring. (I used a 10” wide ring)
  • 1 medium metal ring. (I used a 19” wide ring)
  • Lots of fabric! (I used a piece of fabric that was 5”wide X 18” long and used all of it!)
  • Scissors
  • White Glue
  • Ribbon – 1” wide
  • Candle
  • Pen
  • Needle and thread

Step 1: Cut four 1” wide strips out of your fabric lengthwise and wrap them around your metal rings. Once you have covered the rings with fabric, glue the ends down.

Step 2: Use the 5” round stencil to draw circles onto your fabric. It is best to fold and pin the fabric so that you can cut multiple circles at once as you will require approximately 200 circles to complete this project. The amount of circles depends on how full you want to make the chandelier. Don’t worry about making your circles perfect because you will be burning the edges.

Step 3: Once all the circles have been cut you can start burning the edges. This will insure the ends do not fray while at the same time creating a unique shape. I found it easiest to pinch the centre of the circle while letting the fabric scrunch above the flame; this provides the best melting shape.

Warning: Do not put the fabric directly into the flame, the heat above the flame is hot enough to melting and shape your fabric.

Step 4: Thread your now shaped fabric pieces together create strands. Using your needle and thread attach the fabric pieces together starting from the bottom and working your way up.  Tie each fabric piece just above the one below it so that you can almost see the string. Once you have completed your strand, wrap the remaining thread around the ring – do not sew it to the ring as you may need to adjust the spacing later in the project.

Note: On the large ring I layered 5 of the fabric pieces and made 19 of them while on the small ring I layered 10 of them and made 7 of them. If you want to create a fuller look add more strands.

Step 5: Once all of the strands are attached place them evenly around the ring and glue 4 strips of 3’ long ribbon around the large ring and 3 strips of ribbon that are about 3 ½’ long on the small ring. If your ribbon won’t stick use paper clamps to secure the ribbon around the ring while it dries.

Step 6: Once the glue has dried you can then gather the ribbon and tie a knot. Cut the extra ribbon away and hang your new chandelier!

Dreamy Ceremonies

With the promise of spring around the corner and faint memories of what open green spaces look like, I’ve been falling head over heels for the clean and classic look of a white ceremony. I love the diversity and opportunity that a white chair provides in a room. Leave them stark white for a modern appearance or add a fun bright accent to the chairs to reflect your personality. Below are some of my favourite white ceremony images.

Country Stylized Wedding Shoot

Last week JoyFoley Weddings & Styling was featured on Wedding Obsession for this fresh styled country wedding shoot. I love the pop of red incorporated into the design. From the model’s bold red lips and cowboy boots to the hint of red peppered throughout the floral arrangements and the crisp red apples at each place setting. Special Event Rentals is thrilled to have been apart of this striking country shoot.

A Garden Inspired Easter At Home

I love Easter! What’s not to love?  Fresh spring air, soft feminine colours, copious amounts of chocolate!  For me, Easter preparations usually start as soon as my Christmas tree comes down and this year was no exception.  Here’s a little insight into how my Easter came together.
Easter Table

Early on in the design process I became obsessed with the idea of having bunny napkins.  I searched through fabric stores for weeks trying to find just the right print but everything was quite juvenile.  Then one evening while out shopping I happened upon some tea towels that had the right vibe so I enlisted the help of my co-worker to cut them up and make me some napkins.

Now that I had the bunny element crossed off my list, it was time to move on to another fabulous part of the tablescape – flowers.  I left it to Candice at Wild Orchid to surprise me with the arrangements, giving her only the size of the table, linen samples and the word “garden” to go on.  I was thrilled with the result!  Colourful, lush centerpieces that created a stunning floral runner for my table.  At the end of the dinner I sent these arrangements home with my guests.

As a special Easter treat I decided to forgo the classic chocolate bunny and opt for chocolate and salted caramel macarons from Duchess Bake Shop.  I give myself extra points for presentation having placed them in glass cloches from Edmonton Wedding & Party Centre.
