Wedding Wednesday – A Country Escape

It was destined that Kristina McAnally would take part in this amazing outdoor wedding and become this brides wedding planner. The bride’s décor inspiration for her wedding came from a refined tablescape that was created by Kristina and the team at Event Planning Headquarters for Bridal Fantasy two years prior!

This couple took a hands on approach for their wedding décor and created many unique and custom pieces for their wedding day. The large direction sign was hand crafted by the groom himself, as were the logs, which held the seating chart and chalk sign for the reception.

The tables were named after a different herbs and each table had the corresponding herb incorporated into its centrepiece.  We love the idea of putting fresh herbs on the tables as it allows your guests to add additional flavor to their dinners if they so choose. The herb inspiration was carried on to the guest favours where the bride created different spice blends in adorable glass containers.

A beautiful outdoor lounge was created with lounge furniture, a fireplace frame and candles galore! There also were fun chalk signs for the guests to share their thoughts while using the photo booth.

What You Need to Know About Tent Weddings and Events

Mountains, countryside, lakes and city lights are incredible backdrops for weddings and events of all kinds. Take advantage of nature’s beauty by hosting your event outdoors with a tent! Tent weddings and events give you the luxury of building your event layout and décor on a completely blank canvas. You can design and plan your event without concern of layout limitations, venue timelines, or room capacities. The creative and spatial freedom you gain when hosting an event in a tent is almost invaluable; however, there are a few key things to consider before you decide that this is route to go.

Things to consider when deciding to have a tent wedding:

  • Do you have a large enough space to accommodate a tent wedding?
  • Who will caterer the event and will they need their own tent for prep? Will they supply bartenders?
  • Will you rent or buy tables, chairs, dinnerware, glassware, linen, dance floor, staging lighting and power (generators)?
  • Where will everyone park?
  • Will there be a public restroom nearby or will you rent a portable toilet?

The above list might make choosing a tent feel a little daunting, but the benefits definitely outweigh the extra planning required. You get to celebrate in a custom created atmosphere, designed specifically to suite your style. Tent weddings also allow you a ton of freedom. Because you do not have to juggle between the schedules of other events, you have ample time for décor set up prior to the wedding. You also have no curfew; you and your guests can celebrate until the wee hours of the morning. If you’re hosting a gift opening or post-wedding brunch, use the tent again! It’s your own private venue for the festivities surrounding the momentous celebration!

With a variety of sizes and styles of tents you will definitely be able to find a tent to suit your needs. Click here to view our tent rental catalogue.

Summer Showroom Tent & D.I.Y. Head Table Scallop

We have saved the best for last in our summer showroom tablescape series. Our summer tent mixes creams and silvers in multiple textures to create a scene of timeless elegance!

While the idea of combining multiple shades of creams together might seem like a cardinal rule not to be tampered with, we strongly disagree. Our team at Event Planning Headquarters ventured to challenge this rule and created a tent full of regal appeal.

The reason why the décor concept of multiple cream shades together works is because each hue is presented in a different texture. Six textures, somerset, damask, satin, pintuck, rosette, and voile, are combined to achieve a sophisticated space.

Silver chiavari’s, silver five arm candelabras, baroque charger plates and paradise platinum dinnerware amplify the luxurious feel in this tent. They also add a soft coolness that makes this décor perfect for every season!

Getting Wedding Organized – Ceremony & Reception Venue

One of the first decisions you will need to make when planning your wedding is where to host your ceremony and reception. Do you want to have an outdoor or indoor wedding? Do you want to be near water or close to the mountains? Do you prefer to have the ceremony and reception at the same location? You should make a venue decision a year before your wedding to insure that you get the venue of your dreams.

Another decision you will need to make before looking for a ceremony venue is if you want to have a civil or religious ceremony.

Outdoor CeremonyIndoor CeremonyOutdoor Wedding Ceremony

If you have no strong religious views a civil ceremony may be the right option for you. A civil ceremony will allow an unconventional ceremony and gives you the option to pick any desired location for your ceremony.

However if you have strong religious views a religious ceremony in a house of worship might suit you best. A religious ceremony can also on occasion be held at another location if you desire and can almost always incorporate the traditions and customs of your faith.

Your reception will potentially be the most extravagant event you will host or plan. With two types of venue options, indoor or outdoor you will be able to bring your dreams to life. Before you start looking for a reception venue you will want to know approximately how many guests you will have as this can help you in eliminating a few venues choices.

Indoor Wedding ReceptionIndoor Winter Wedding ReceptionIndoor Wedding Reception

The first option is to host your reception at a hotel, golf course or another indoor venue. These types of venues host many events within a year and therefore will supply you with tables, chairs as well as most reception venues can supply you with a basic linen to cover your tables. Picking an indoor venue will allow you to make fewer choices such as which caterer to use, as they will most likely supply you and your guests with a plated or buffet meal.

If you decide to have a tent or backyard wedding there are a lot more decisions involved. You will need to decide who you want to cater your dinner, what type of linen and décor you want as well as finding a suitable dance floor just to name a few.

If finding a venue in your city or out of town sounds daunting there is always the option of hiring a wedding planner who knows the area and can make this decision less stressful.

Métis Urban Housing Ground Breaking

Metis Urban Housing - Ground Breaking

Our team had the pleasure of working with Métis Urban Housing for the Boyle Renaissance ground breaking on March 27, 2012.

The Boyle Renaissance Project Phase II is a 90-unit affordable seniors and barrier-free residential complex, which features the latest in green design. The Métis Capital Housing Corporation along with its partners, which includes home-construction expert Mike Holmes, is planning to welcome residents in November 2013.

This event was made possible with the help of Brian Hetherington & Associates who organized this event, Clark Builders who leveled the ground so the event could be held on site, and elm café who supplied a delightful light breakfast.

With the recent 10cm snowfall in Edmonton prior to the set up of the event our crew had to remove all the snow on site prior to setting up the Clearspan Tent. Removing the snow was necessary to create stable flooring, which was created to have an open space in order to provide comfort and shelter form the elements during the ground breaking.

Unique Wedding Venues

Finding the perfect venue to fit your theme and style can be a tricky and time-consuming task. The first step in finding the right venue for your ceremony and reception is to make a commitment on the theme or atmosphere you want your event to have. Once that decision has been made proceeding to find the right venue to heighten your ideas will become an easier task.

Looking for a real unique venue idea? This couple found an old mine cave to host their wedding reception. However suitable and safe caves are few and far between. More people have access to a ranch or acreage, which can become the perfect backdrop for a homey and rural atmosphere. This type of venue is best for a down to earth couple who love the country and outdoors.

If you don’t have access to a suitable cave or country field, one of the following options might be a more suitable and attainable venue.

If you crave a rustic feel for your wedding, a venue with wood panels and a view of the wilderness can be a great asset in adding and complementing the décor. Local vender Snow Valley or Sunridge Ski Area have a rustic country charm with its wood accents, stone fireplaces and large windows overlooking the park, which makes it a perfect place for a rustic themed event.

Want to obtain an old 1950’s flare? If so the Hanger at the Fort Edmonton Park might be the perfect venue for you. With a large plane mural, potential renters must appreciate and welcome it. It also adds personality and a perfect vintage feel to the large space.

Wedding Reception at The Hanger

If rustic and vintage isn’t your thing, wanting your theme to be glamorous and modern, a venue like Latitude 53 might be the perfect fit for your ideas to come alive. An art gallery screams sophistication and with a roof accessible for use which allows for additional downtown chic.

Dream of a destination wedding without the travel time? A venue like the Muttart Conservatory can provide you with gorgeous and lush scenery for your ceremony. Birds and a flowing river will be heard throughout the ceremony taking you and your guests into a serene destination without the cost of a plane ticket.

St. Patrick’s Day in Edmonton

Tomorrow is St. Patrick’s Day and it’s a day of celebration and as well as a day to remember to wear something green to avoid being pinched.

For the past two years Fort Edmonton Park has put on a special celebration called Celtic Reflection – A St. Patrick’s Celebration. To find out if they are participating in this years St. Patrick’s Day festivities please contact Fort Edmonton Park.

If you’re more interested in a lively and traditional Irish celebration you might want to check out one of the local Irish pubs. Edmonton’s local Irish pubs include Twisted Kilt, Tilted Kilt, Black Sheep Pub, O’Byrne’s Irish Pub, The Druid Irish Pub and Devaney’s Irish Pub. The Irish pubs tend to be rather popular during this holiday so one alternative is to attend an Irish themed event.

Now 102.3 will be hosting a pre St. Patrick’s Day event at The Pint on Whyte tonight, while tomorrow The Pint Downtown is hosting their own St. Patrick’s Day event with tents supplied from Special Event Rentals.

Why not check out a few different events, and stop by our showroom to pick up your copy of the new SONIC Session CD Volume 2 before you head to SONIC 102.9 St. Patrick’s Day event tomorrow at Hudsons on Whyte.

 Sonic Sessions Volume 2 CD

If you would rather stay away from the pubs why not host your own St. Patrick’s Day event in the comfort of your own home. Entertain your guest with a green Belgian style lager from our neighbors Alley Kat or make your own green beverage like some sweet green milkshakes. Treat your guests to green cupcakes and supply hats and pins for those who forgot to sport green. View yesterday’s do it yourself post on how to create some of these tasty treats for your guests.

 Alley Kat Brewing Company

If you happen to be looking for a place to travel to this weekend, or if you are already packing your bags for your destination, you should definitely try making it to Chicago where they dye their river green for St. Patrick’s Day! For the past 40+ years they have been turning their river green in honor of this Irish holiday. Click here to watch how Chicago turns its river green.

Tent Events: Renting Lights and Flooring

Tent Lighting Special Event Rentals

Tent Lighting: Add color and drama to your tent lighting.

The type of event you are holding will determine the type and amount of lighting you require. From basic lighting you can upgrade to halogen flood lights or specialty lighting. The halogen flood lights are placed on the centre poles of the tent and are directed upwards. This creates a wash on the tent top which illuminates the entire area. Any of our lighting can be placed on dimmer switches to help create the atmosphere you want. You can also use globe lighting, which comes in 5 or 10 globe options and pole lamps with globe lighting to build a summer garden party theme inside your tent. Another option is our tent light fixtures, which are to scale with the pole tents and create a soft glow for an evening event.  If you want to create a lounge atmosphere we have just added coloured LED lighting to our lighting inventory. Pair this with our expanded line of lounge furniture and you can create a unique venue for your event.

Dance Floor in Tent Special Event Rentals

Flooring: Adding a dance floor to your tent allows the tent to become a complete wedding reception or event venue.

Depending on the surface you are setting the tent on there are several options for flooring. Many people choose to create a dance floor within the tent and others may want the entire ground surface covered. Starting with a stable sub-floor you can then choose a variety of options including black or white marble and oak, maple or teak flooring.

When you start planning your event decide how you want to incorporate a tent; even if you just want cover in case of rain you can make some creative choices that will allow it to join seamlessly with your location and theme. Plan to have the walls open if the weather is nice and extend some of the guest tables to the very edge and even outside the tent. Use greenery and floral to create a garden-like feel and choose linens, accessories and soft lighting that enhance this feeling. If your intention is to create a more enclosed venue you may wish to choose a larger tent size and create different areas within the tent. Add one of our new high-end bar, some cocktail tables and lounge seating to create a relaxed lounge feel. This will also give your guests room to mingle with each other while enjoying before dinner drinks. You can also add custom flags to the top of your tent; using a corporate logo or the couples monogram on the flag will add that personal touch to an event. Choose your decor based on your event and location so everything works together. Special Event Rentals has decor and rental coordinators that are able to assist you in creating, enhancing and executing your decor to ensure everything works together.

Our brand new tent washer keeps our tent inventory clean and pristine; this is the only tent washer in the prairie provinces and ensures you will be pleased with the condition of our tents. Add a set of double doors to any pole or frame tent if you want to keep the elements out, we recommend reserving these with your tent if your event is early in the spring or in the fall; another option is to add tent heaters to help keep guests warm in the cooler evenings of these times. Consider using solid walls to create a visual barrier if you want to hide certain areas outside the tent or behind the head table at weddings to help create a backdrop.

Whatever the event, Special Event Rentals will be able to help you find the answers to any questions you may have about a tent event. Call us at 780-435-2211 and one of our tent specialists will work with you to create the event of your dreams.
