A Winter Farewell

Spring is here! Or so they say. What better way to say farewell to Old Man Winter than with a gorgeous winter wedding? For their early February wedding at The Fairmont Hotel Macdonald the couple chose a classic winter palette of navy and silver. Touches of sparkle were added with the silver braided table runners and the hand made napkin rings. Alternating fresh floral centerpieces in tall Bella vases commanded attention as guests entered the ballroom. The bride added personal touches at every corner; in the foyer framed quotes about love, as interpreted by the Bride’s kindergarten class were displayed on the cocktail tables.  And in the ballroom, table numbers like 99 which represented “The Approximate Number Of Bottles Of Wine Consumed At The Engagement Party”, and 10 which was in reference to the grade the couple was in when they met.  With sophisticated decor and an ample supply of personalization this couples wedding has us feeling all warm inside.

What’s Your Wedding Style? Modern Venue & Decor

Bold Minimalist Bride

Bold Minimalist Wedding Decor Inspiration

A bold minimalist bride seeks a venue where the architecture of the building does more for her décor plan than any supporting elements she brings into the space. Ever a proponent of clean lines, the Art Gallery of Alberta, Winspear Centre, and Holes Enjoy Centre top her list for wedding venues. Accenting the glass and steel framework of these locations, she uses crystal clear chiavari chairs to keep the décor clean while still visually stunning. The clarity of the chairs ensure her tables dressed in black and white formal stripe linen receive the full attention they deserve. Clear plexi pillars line her ceremony aisle and also act as display cases for her shallow table centerpieces running down the middle of long feast tables.

Urban Bride

Urban Wedding Inspiration

The urban bride seeks a unique and intimate space, offering unexpected interior construction and location. She chooses a downtown rooftop for her ceremony and uses the city skyline as a dramatic backdrop. For the reception, she opts for a venue with exposed beams, brick and pipes or a completely blank slate to build on with intentional lighting and projections, and – of course – room to dance. Latitude 53, the Yellowhead Brewery or TransAlta Arts Barns are her top choices. She brings in LED bars and furniture, gelato tables and scooper stools, and a strong sound system to ensure the party carries well into the wee hours of the morn.

What’s Your Wedding Style? Glamorous Attire

Crystal Glam Glam Wedding Attire

Whether she dawns a dramatic mermaid style gown or a full skirted princess ball gown, the Crystal Glam Bride is sure to turn heads on her wedding day.  Her favorite dresses are from designer Pnina Tornai whose signature pieces combine luxurious fabrics with Swarovski crystals for a truly couture look.  Pairing a simple polished updo and Kardashian inspired make up will give her that classic glam feeling.  She will complete her ensemble with a statement necklace and pair of fabulous shoes.  The Groom and his men are likely to be in traditional tuxedos in keeping with the formality of occasion.  Floor length dresses are a must for the bridesmaids, and why not full sequins?

Vintage Glam
Vintage Wedding AttireYou won’t find the Vintage Glam Bride in a big poufy frock on her wedding day.  This bride gravitates more to the feminine, flowing, curve skimming pieces of designer Jenny Packham.  To give her look the authenticity of the 1920s she will pay close attention to the details.  Dresses with ornate beading, a fur or feathered shawl, and a cap veil paired with deep red lips will put her perfectly back in time.  Historically her groom would be in a top hat and tails but in a more modern era a tuxedo and bow tie certainly fit the bill.  Bridesmaids will show some leg in knee length dresses.  They’ll pair deep jewel tones like ruby and emerald with metallic accents and a signature string of pearls.

Classic Vintage Attire
Classic Vintage Attire The classic vintage bride is one who loves lace, pearls and long wavy curls. She opts for a birdcage veil and heirloom jewellery as her accessories to complete her bridal look. The groom and groomsmen will be seen with unique bowties and pocket squares. The bridesmaids would shop local boutiques with the bride to find vintage mismatched garments.

Rustic Vintage Attire Rustic Wedding AttireThe rustic bride is down to earth but sophisticated and can be seen with her favourite cowboy boots peeking out of her dress and accessorizing with natural elements such as feathers in her hair. The men will flaunt casual footwear, cardigans and messenger hats with boutonnieres of wheat, and bridesmaid’s bouquets are tied with burlap for country flair.

What’s Your Wedding Style? Modern

Modern Urban Bride What's Your Wedding Style? Modern Urban

Like the hustle of a metropolitan, a modern urban wedding is full of energy, life and momentum. It is exciting and unpredictable, much like the bride herself. She is inspired by art and architecture. Fashion and food are key elements of her wedding, just as they are in major cities. Her regular playlist is fun and dynamic, but holds a common thread of authenticity from Ellie Goulding to Santigold to Kendrick Lamar. She loves social interaction and her wedding embraces that. This wedding is a true party.

Modern Bold Minimalist Bride
What's Your Wedding Style? Modern Bold MinimalismThe bold minimalist bride subscribes to the less is more philosophy. However, her “less” is made up of unparalleled quality. Never compromising her standard of style, she opts for clean lines and structure that highlight one or two statement pieces to carry an outfit or room décor. She is drawn to black and white colour palettes. Her speakers plays anything melodic from Purity Ring to Frank Ocean. She loves Club Monaco and chooses a (quality) black Americano. No cream. No sugar. No fuss. Just the pure stand-alone taste.

Soft Romantic

Soft Romantic Bride Inspiration

The soft romantic bride is one that never finds a romantic comedy too cheesy and can read through a Nicholas Sparks novel in one tear-filled night. Her favorite musicians are the slow melodies of Bon Iver, Cat Power and Beach House.  The soft, feminine fashions of Olivia Palermo and Grace Kelly inspire this bride. A perfect Saturday would be spent enjoying some elegant treats at Duchess Bake Shop followed by some retail therapy at local boutique Loft 82.

Bold Romantic

Bold Romantic Bride Inspiration

A bold romantic bride is one who believes in a deep life changing love. If you are a bold romantic bride you will love the movie The Notebook and enjoy listening to Adele’s deep longing chords. Your celebrity fashion icon may very well be Anne Hathaway with her elegant red carpet styles and the confidence she exhibits while wearing them. Red has long been recognised as the colour of true love and a bold romantic bride will take full advantage of this colour in her wedding.
